What is Pickleball?

Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. It's played on a court with a net, using a perforated polymer ball and solid paddles. The game is easy to learn but offers plenty of opportunity for competitive play.

The Court

Similar to a badminton court (20x44 feet), with a net at 36 inches at the edges and 34 inches in the center. Features a "kitchen" (non-volley zone) near the net.

The Paddle

Solid paddles made from wood, composite, or graphite. Larger than table tennis paddles but smaller than tennis racquets.

The Ball

A perforated polymer ball, similar to a wiffle ball. Indoor and outdoor balls have different hole patterns.

Basic Rules

Key Rules to Know

  • 1. Underhand Serve - The serve must be made underhand, with contact below waist level.
  • 2. Two-Bounce Rule - The ball must bounce once on each side before volleys are allowed.
  • 3. Non-Volley Zone - No volleys allowed in the "kitchen" (7 feet from the net).
  • 4. Scoring - Games are typically played to 11 points, win by 2. Only the serving team can score.
  • 5. Doubles Play - Most games are played as doubles, with both partners serving before side-out.
